Since the days of the Godfather, mafia movie-buffs have longed to see living legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino reunited on screen. It happened once before in Heat, where De Niro and Pacino co-starred on opposite sides of the law.
Now the legends are back, in Righteous Kill. This time they’re on the same side of law as cops on the hunt for a serial killer.
Despite the all-star lineup, the movie is considered a joint indie production by Nu Image’s Millennium Films and Emmett-Furla Films. The films budget is $60 million and has yet to be fully cast. Shooting is expected to begin August 6 in Connecticut.
Personally, the Bag Man is excited about this team up. Heat was “ok,” but hardly legendary. Hopefully, having this team-up go independant will help create a quality movie, while simultaneously sidelining the need for high-priced glamour and shallowly-scripted “blockbusters” that have plagued Hollywood in recent years. An all-star celebrity-infused cast does not make a good movie.
