In a very surprising results show, Melinda Doolittle failed to receive enough votes to make the American Idol finale. Remaining in the competition are 17 year-old Jordin Sparks and 25 year-old Blake Lewis.
Doolittle was this season’s most consistent performer, drawing on her professional experience as a background singer. But American Idol is just as much about popularity as it is about actual talent.
Lewis and Sparks will square off in the show’s finale next week, vying for the prestigious honor of becoming the next American Idol.
However, it’s pretty obvious that all both remaining contestants as well as Doolittle will be getting recording contracts of some sort.
Wednesday’s show also featured performances by Maroon 5 and former contestant Elliott Yamin, who came in third last year.
