It looks like Jack Bauer will get to save the day 2 more times. Fox has renewed the Emmy-winning 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland through the 2008-09 season. Sutherland has a contract to produce/star in the show through 2009.
No word yet on what creative direction the show will take. The sixth and latest season has received criticism for being subpar in quality and direction as compared to the show’s prior seasons. Season Six has definitely had it’s ups and down in my opinion. It’s really hard to judge the show coming off of the glory that was Season 5.
I think the show is in desperate need of a reboot of some sorts. We’ve already seen all the permutations of what can happen to Jack, Los Angeles, CTU, the country, and the US president. They need to mix up the formula, perhaps taking it to another city. Oh, and definitely hire some new human resources people at CTU - NO MORE MOLES, PLEASE. I’d also like to see some simplicity in the threat that Jack needs to stop. Anyway, I believe the show deserves another chance to reinvent itself and get back to what made it arguably one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
