NBC is hoping for a bionic revival to slumping ratings. The network has recently ordered a remake of the 1970s hit The Bionic Woman.

Building on the sci-fi buzz started with Heroes, NBC has commissioned three new shows each with a sci-fi theme. The first stars the bionic woman. Next up is a drama about a time-traveling journalist called the Journeyman. Lastly, is a drama about a computer whiz who mysteriously downloads espionage secrets to his brain, called Chuck.

Since the loss of Friends and Frasier, NBC has struggled to regain the crucial 18 to 49 demographic. Shows like the Black Donnellys were quickly cut after lackluster ratings. Even Deal or No Deal appears to be losing viewer appeal. Advertisers look for the shows that dominate the 18 to 49 demographic when deciding on where to throw their advertising dollars. The network is also concerned that parent company GE may sell the struggling station to satisfy investors.

It’s not clear yet whether the star character of The Bionic Woman will be Jaime Sommers again, who was starred by Lindsay Wagner in the 70s.
