According to movietickets.com, advanced ticket sales for Spider-Man 3 are already three times that of its predecessor Spider-Man 2. Hollywood is hoping for this latest superhero sequel to bolster ticket sales in the recent box office slump. Sony is also looking to benefit from the web-slinger, especially after sub par PS3 console sales.
Disturbia lead box office sales for the third week in a row with 9.1 million. The Invisible from Disney came in second this weekend with 7.6 million.
If any month could boost box office sales it’s May. Shrek the Third and Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World’s End will join Spider-Man for a May opening. Coincidentally, all three movies are on their third sequel.
