According to NYmag.com, David Bowie is planning on launching a new festival only three days after the close of Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Festival. Bowie’s festival will be called the High Line Series.
De Niro co-founded the Film Festival after the September 11 attacks as a means of revitalizing the community. NYmag.com reports one source calling “De Niro’s vision of Tribeca — commercialized, banal, exploited.” This year’s festival kicks off with Spider-Man 3.
Bowie is tailoring his festival to a younger edgier crowd. The High Line Series, will be a 10-day celebration of “music, movies, comedy, visual art and performance.”
And, De Niro couldn’t be more frustrated. A source told the magazine, “it’s driving Robert De Niro crazy.” According to Page Six sources, they’re calling it a “Slamdance to our Sundance and living off the success of Sundance.”
Time will determine the longevity of this new festival. But, one positive note is that this gives up-and-coming artists a new venue to display their work and earn notoriety.
