With only four episodes left of season six on Smallville, everyone’s guessing what the future holds for the family everyone loves to hate. The Luthors have always been the antagonist to our hero Clark Kent. So, let’s take a closer look at the family tree.
We’ll start at the top, with patriarch Lionel Luthor. In season four’s “Transference” episode, Lionel switches bodies with Clark. The aftermath is a much more altruistic Lionel Luthor. The father who has made malicious attempts at his own son’s life and the life of Clark is a think of the past. Or is it? By the end of season four, Jor-El begins to channel Lionel’s body as a means of communicating with Clark Kent. Lionel uses his knowledge of Clark’s secret to become our hero’s willing confidant. Even if Clark is ever so unwilling. He also begins to weasel his way into Martha Kent’s life after Jonathan Kent’s untimely death.
Now, it seems the Luthor of old is back. Since the loss of power to Clark’s infamous Fortress of Solitude, Lionel has been unable to channel the voice of Jor-El. And after a confrontation between father and son, Lionel and Lex, Lex forshadows the return of the Lionel of old. He points out to his father that Lionel’s guise may fool the Kent’s, but Lex knows the evil conspiring Lionel is still there. We saw the return of Lionel in the “Promise” episode where he blackmail’s Lana into marrying his son.
And what of Lex? His bargain with his father for the willing hand of Lana in marriage has resulted in the unholiest of contracts. A contract whose price is unknown. He’s also been building an army of Krypto-freaks. Clark and his future Justice League of America were able to only shutdown one of countless secret LuthorCorp facilities around the world. But, that day of reckoning is still to come.
With the induction of Lana Luthor into the despicable family, Clark is now involved in a Luthor love triangle. Lana Lang married Lex for the wrong reason. It seems she was falsly lead to believe she was pregnant by Lex all along. Now, there’s no returning to the man she loves. What will become of the marriage of Lex and Lana? Once a Luthor always a Luthor - till death do you part.

Can’t call it. is Lionel good or evil? either way he’s by far the best character on smallville
I don’t know dude. I like Lionel more than Lex, but i figure they’re going to kill of Lionel before the series ends.
