It was country music night on American Idol tonight with guest music coach Martina McBride.
There was an above average performance (finally) from Phil Stacey, who sang “Where The Blacktop Ends”. His rendition drew praise from all three judges (yes, even Simon).
17 year old Jordin Sparks was just as great as ever singing “Broken Wing”. Simon actually said that she could actually be the American Idol based on that performance.
Is it finally Sanjaya Malakar’s time to go? According to Randy, the teenager came with a karaoke-ish version of “Give them something to talk about”.
Lakisha Jones sang “Jesus Take The Wheel,”, but it didn’t bode well with the judges. Her performance drew criticism that it sounded like she was shouting the track. Not good news for Ms. Jones.
Chris Richardson sang “Mayberry” in a very average performance, which was dubbed sub par by all of the judges. Simon called the performance “nasally” and said it had no impact at all.
Melinda Doolittle was the absolute best tonight with her rendition of “Trouble is a Woman,” which drew praise from all three judges. Her performance was absolutely impeccable and she showed how serious she wants to win this competition.
Beat-boxer Blake Lewis sang “When The Stars Go Blue,” which was the 2nd best performance next to Melinda.
So who’s next to go. My prediction for the bottom three is Phil Stacey (despite his good performance tonight), Sanjaya, and Chris Richardson. Expect Sanjaya to again defy the odds, which will send Phil Stacey home.
Tune in tomorrow night at 9PM on Fox for the results show!
