CBS is taking its popular reality show Survivor directly to China. The next season of will be filmed entirely in the communist nation. This is a first for any American Television Network.

It’s a wonder why Fox didn’t opt to do the same with its 24 series. China is one of the most difficult places in the world for production. “The Painted Veil” was filmed there last year and production didn’t go to well. The government had creative control over editing which lead to fallout between actor Edward Norton and director John Curran. One can only guess, that national resentment for the Chinese being negatively portrayed would earn the 24 production crew a one way ticket back to American soil.

Daily Variety reported that this will be Survivor’s first time leaving an island setting since 2003. CBS is hoping that this will help boost the shows international appeal. It is unknown yet where in China filming will take place.
