Everyone’s heard of Ricky Martin. Livin’ la Vida Loca made the Latin pop star a household name. But what few remember is that the pop star got his start in the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo. The band was one of the top teen groups in the 80s and 90s, periodically rotating their roster when members grew too old.

Now the boy band is back with a Making the Band style reality show. Seven boys will be selected from auditions held around the country. The panel of judges include Johnny Wright, who was the manager behind American boy bands like the Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, and ‘NSync.

In an interview with the Miami Herald, Wright said, “We’re going to make it a little different than it was before … The beat is going to be the beats of the street now club, hip-hop and rock. It’s not going to be something that’s pigeonholed.”

The show entitled The Road to Menudo will air next month on MTV’s bilingual Latin-American channel MTV Tr3s.
