NBC has decided to boot The Black Donnellys from the coveted Monday night spot and replace it with a new show called Thank God You’re Here. The new show is a spoof Game Show/Improv show much like Whose Line is it Anyway. The host David Alan Grier welcomes celebs to the stage, before sending them through the magic door. Each celeb has no idea what’s behind the door, just that they will be greeted with the phrase, “Thank God You’re Here.” Each setting is different and the actor or actress must improvise their way through the scene.

Will it last? Doubtful. Whose Line is it Anyway survived because it had a steady roster of seasoned improvisers to keep the show moving. Thank God You’re Here will use an entire lineup of different actors every week. Right now they’re utilizing the comedian circuit which was a good decision. But, is this the kind of show that will keep viewers awake at 10pm on a Monday night? On the plus side, the the time slot is a gem, following the return of Heroes on April 23. Last night’s kickoff episode featured Kevin Nealon and Mo’Nique who both helped spice up the show. Yet, it’s the show’s sustainability that is in question since audiences tend to get bored with gimmicks quickly.

Black Donnellys’ fans will be glad to know that their show didn’t get the total axe. It’s been moved to the dreaded Friday night doom and gloom slot. A place where most shows go before getting the final CUT.
