So today we all got a brief glimpse at one of 2007’s most anticipated titles, Grand Theft Auto IV. Brief is definitely the key word here, but if we were to judge on pure graphics, this game will be quite impressive.
The game comes full circle since its 3D launch in Grand Theft Auto III. That’s right, we’re back in the bricks of Liberty City, which will now become a much more serious model of Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs. Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Times Square, Coney Island Roller Coaster, Brooklyn brownstones.. they’re all here and all of the scenery looks seriously authentic. The lighting effects look amazing and it looks like they will actually be more Liberty City citizens on the screen to make it feel like a real city.
We also got to see our ‘protagonist’ who is a Russian criminal. It’ll be interesting to see the types of crime circles one will get into this time around.
I think the trailer is “Mission Accomplished” for Rockstar. It impresses and answers some of the bigger questions, but provides them with necessary buzz to get the preorders going. The gaming community is in a state of wonder… contemplating on all the next gen enhancements to come. Will the gameplay be more vertical, allowing gamers to scale the infamous skyscrapers of New York. What time period will the game be set in? What new vehicles and gameplay dynamics will be at the forefront?
Bravo, Rockstar you’ve set out the bait. But get back to work, you’ve only got a little over 6 months to make this puppy legendary.
GTAIV hits stores October 16. Oh, and the trailer is available Game Trailers.
