xbox360elite.jpgIn what appears to be a successful attempt at confirming a well-spread rumor, blogger Dean Takahashi has stated that Microsoft is indeed releasing an XBox 360 elite this year.

The new and improved console will go on sale in limited quantities this spring for $479. Among rumored enhancements are a black case, 120 GB hard drive, HDMI port and support for IPTV. The current unit comes with a white case, 20 GB hard drive, and component output.

To confirm the rumor even more, Australia newspaper, The Sydney Morning Herald states that Microsoft Australia will be making a “big” announcement this Wednesday and that it may be to confirm the existence of the new 360 console.

Again, folks, these are just rumors and until it comes from Microsoft directly, all we can do is speculate. I’m a big fan of the 360 and have loved what I’ve seen so far, so a part of me applauds Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing the technology. The larger hard drive and HDMI capabilities show that they are serious about becoming the entertainment show piece of all people’s living rooms, not just hardcore gamers. However, I’m left with the dilemma of what to do with my current box, if I decide to upgrade… Ahhhh, the perils of being an early-adopter!
