Here’s proof you don’t need an Ivy League education to teach Ivy courses. Kal Penn, star of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle will be a guest instructor at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. Kal earned a Bachelor’s degree in sociology with a specialization in theater, film and television from the University of California.

Grace Kao, the director of Penn’s Asian American Studies Program, said, “Mr. Modi is one of the leading Asian American actors of his generation and is particularly aware of how his racial and ethnic identification has affected his professional experiences.” The courses are tentitively named: “Images of Asian Americans in the Media” and “Contemporary American Teen Films.”

The cult star recently finished shooting Harold & Kumar 2 with John Cho. Kal also worked on season 6 of 24. His serious character on the Monday night hit show was a stark contrast to his more well known comedic roles.
