New Line has won feature rights to “Gears of War“, which is one of the best selling and currently most played titles on the XBox 360. Stuart Beattie will write the script and Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce.
Beattie wrote suspenseful thrillers “Collateral” and “Derailed“.
Given its popularity, this is a no-brainer for New Line, who won the rights in an auction. ‘Gears’ is definitely one of the best games the 360 currently has to offer. It consistently has the top slot in terms of usage on XBox Life.
But I think there’s so much potential for the movie. No word yet on if it will be the story of the game, will be a prequel or a sequel to the game. Equally important will be who they get to play Marcus Fenix in the lead role and his wingman Dom.
However, I hope they actually make the movie though since Universal and Fox failed to bring the “Halo” movie to production.
