What happens when the psychotic minds behind violent, gory, and overtly raunchy movies like Kill Bill and Sin City get together? They get slapped with the NC-17 rating. That’s what. In April, Grindhouse, the new double feature by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, may hit theatres with the problematic NC-17 rating.

Tarantino fans may remember that Kill Bill Vol. 1 almost got that rating. Tarantino was forced to make some last minute edits, including modifying the last all out brawl scene through O-Ren Ishii’s (played by Lucy Liu gang of Yakuza thugs. The scene had so much hack slashin blood and guts that Tarantino decided to change it to black and white to avoid censorship. The scene still worked and gave Kill Bill Vol. 1 a classy feel.

According to the New York Post , the grisly scenes of torture, oral sex, beheadings, full frontal nudity and other possibly offensive acts will certainly put the film in jeopardy with the Motion Picture Association of America. “Some cuts definitely will have to be made. There’s no question,” one studio insider told the Post.

Grindhouse is a tribute to B-movies of the 70s and 80s. The movie includes fake movie trailers in between the two double features: “Death Proof” and “Planet Terror.”
