It looks like Harry Potter’s mysterious “Chamber of Secrets” is secret no more. Film star Daniel Radcliffe has decided to bare it all on stage in the role of Alan Strang in Peter Shaffer’s “Equus.” Alan in “Equus” is a stark change from our adolescent-bashful sorcerer. Alan engages in what Sarah Lyall of The New York Times calls “some serious equi-erotic nuzzling with an actor playing a horse.” Radcliffe is “also onstage, fully nude, for 10 minutes, during which he nearly has sex with an equally naked young woman.”
The child star has long talked about moving out of his role as Harry Potter and from reviews this attempt was a success. Charles Spencer of The Daily Telegraph, said that “Daniel Radcliffe brilliantly succeeds in throwing off the mantle of Harry Potter, announcing himself as a thrilling stage actor of unexpected depth and range.” Radcliffe said “I thought it would be a bad idea to wait till the Potter films were all finished to do something else.”
Will this effect his role as Harry Potter? The jury is still out. The next installment of the Harry Potter franchise “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” is scheduled for release on July 13. Directly following the movie’s opening, the final chapter in the Harry Potter saga, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” will be available on July 21.
The now “fully-exposed and well-rounded” Radcliffe has also signed on to complete the final two movie adaptations.
