Stop the presses. Did my ears deceive me? After a holiday hiatus, and seven epic episodes that kicked Jack Bauer to the curb, Heroes will be taking another vacation. That’s right. Fans will have to wait over a month to see what happens in the final few chapters of the first season of Heroes.
NBC’s set the return day for April 23. This gives Jack Bauer a little over a month to get his act together and try to reclaim the coveted Monday night 9/8c ratings slot. Bauer’s bested some of the worst terrorists Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran can think of, but can he thwart the maniacal Tim Kring, creator of Heroes. I don’t think a healthy dose of epinephrine’s going to be the answer this time. Maybe he just needs the full 24 hours to do it. So he’s got until April 23rd to whip something up out of the old CTU bag of tricks and make a move.
Now for the plot spoilers. If you haven’t watched tonight’s episode, stop reading and tune your favorite web browser to Heroes on NBC Rewind.
Looks like everyone’s favorite sidekick didn’t hop a flight back to the land of the rising sun. Ando shows up in time to save his pal Hiro from Liberman’s security detail. The result, after a multiple episode hunt, Hiro finally lays his hands on the precious katana of Takezo Kensei. But even though Hiro may have his powers back, last week we learned an important detail about Hiro’s past. His father, Nakamura senior, has something to do with the organization that Mr. Bennett is a part of and was the individual responsible for putting Claire in the hands of Mr. Bennett. As bizarre as fate and television plot twists are, we are now sympathetic towards Mr. Bennetts plight. Fans everywhere are saying: hey, he can’t be all that bad. And another shocker, Ms. Petrelli has known all along about her son’s illegitimate daughter.
We have two conflicted characters, Nikki and Nathan, who haven’t decided if they want to embrace their heroic fate or live the easy life of money and power. Nikki’s conflict is the internal kind as she struggles to keep her split persona Jessica at bay. Nathan suffers from power disorder. Last night we finally met Mr. Liberman, the man who wanted Nathan dead. When Mr. Linderman dangles the possibility of Nathan becoming President, Nathan backs off on his plans to take the businessman down.
And finally, we have the showdown we’ve all been waiting for. In a twist, we learned that Mohinder discovered Sylar’s indentity. Unfortunately, the information did little to save Mohinder from Sylar’s torturous grasp. Peter shows up, but he’s still having trouble controlling his own powers, which gives Sylar the opportunity for a new toy.
What will happen on April 23? Only Tim Kring knows, but whatever it is, expect nonstop excitement and edge of your seat thrills.
