Apple, Inc. has delayed the launch of its upcoming TV video-streaming product until March, but the company would not explain why. During the MacExpo, Steve Jobs had said that the $299 product would be available in February.
“Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipments mid-March,” Apple spokeswoman Lynn Fox said. Ms. Fox declined to elaborate beyond that.
One month delay or not, I still think the company has their work cut out for them on this project. It’s definitely a cool idea to be able to buy your favorite TV shows, but I question how good these smaller downloads will look on a much bigger TV than your computer monitor. Apple will also have to convince people that it’s better to buy your TV than watch it for free. Also, with iTunes offering movies at just-as- expensive prices as DVDs, it may be hard to convince people that this is a better alternative. Many consumers like having a physical item, that they can bring over to a friend’s house and store on a shelf.
