At the annual Berlin Film Festival on Sunday, Eastwood submitted the Oscar Nominated “Letters from Iwo Jima.” The story parallels his earlier piece “Flags of Our Fathers,” which delved into the lives of Americans fighting during World War II. “Letters” explores the Japanese side of the war.
Eastwood said, “I was wondering what American veterans of the battle of Iwo Jima would think of ‘Letters From Iwo Jima,’ because most of, a lot of them probably had very bad experiences on that island.” He followed, “I found that most of the Americans that I’ve talked to … were very curious about it and they were very curious about how the other side lived.”
The film has been nominated for the Oscar in both the best film and best director categories.
