Arts for LA has started a petition to increase funding for the nation’s arts programs. The reactionary petition began when President Bush proposed only a 3.2% increase in funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. His 2008 budget proposal, would only raise the endowment to 128.4million, while the endowment received almost 40% more than that amount in the early 90s. The petition calls for Congress to increase arts funding despite the President’s budget. Congress has the power to do so.

In contrast to Bush’s decision, California Gov. Schwarzenegger budgeted $109 million for arts in education for the state’s 2007 budget.
