American Idol sets Fox Ratings Record

american-idol.jpgThe stats are in, American Idol is back on the scene, bigger than ever. Its Tuesday season premiere drew an estimated 37.3 million viewers Tuesday, according to preliminary ratings data from Nielsen Media Research. This is 5% more than last years debut and represents the best debut ever for any show on the Fox Network.

I don’t know what they’re doing, but they’re doing something right. Shows usually decline in the ratings department with age (ask Donald Trump about the Apprentice), but this AI cannot be stopped. I guess, as a country, we’ll never grow tired of Simon’s random insults and Randy’s “Yo, Dog.”

I think this show undermines the American Spirit and is the ultimate tale of someone defying the odds to become a champion. Side note, I was really happy to see Jennifer Hudson, a former AI reject, take home the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Dreamgirls.

I can’t wait to see how the finalist stack up this year. We’re in for a good one!
