Two years after the release of the first lackluster Fantastic Four movie, Marvel’s bringing the heroic family back to the screen in “Rise of the Silver Surfer.” The new movie, slated for release June 15, 2007, will not only feature the Surfer, but will also introduce him the way he was introduced to power-cosmic comic fans around the world. You guessed it as the herald of Galactus, the legendary planet eating immortal.
How Marvel hopes to accomplish this loose adaptation of a cosmic story line one can only wonder. Comic lovers will be upset to see the Silver Surfer flying through buildings like he’s the Terminator 2, some liquid-mercury metallic being that merges with other substances.
Comic book storylines that are centered on catalysts outside of Earth tend to be boring despised arches readers shy away from. Hopefully, this adaptation doesn’t have the same effect on ticket sales.
