James Brown, nicknamed as the “Godfather of Soul” died early Christmas day in an Atlanta hospital at the age of 73. Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and passed at approximately 1:45 AM Dec. 25th.
It’s hard to argue that there has been a more influential person in the music business in the last 40 or so years. Brown can be credited with laying the foundations for R&B, disco, and even rap music. His vocal style, showmanship, and even fashion style inspired the likes of Michael Jackson and Prince as well as countless other artists spanning all genres of music.
As for awards, he won a Grammy award for lifetime achievement in 1992, as well as Grammys in 1965 for “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” and for “Living In America” in 1987, which was featured on the Rocky IV soundtrack.
Rest in Peace, Godfather of Soul.
