Whoa… Stop the freakin’ presses. The Bag Man just got the word, Apple’s infamous iPod has caught a virus. Calm down everyone, it’s not all iPods just the video iPods. Apple is unsure how many iPods were infected with the RavMonE.exe virus, a virus which affects only computers running Microsoft Windows OS. According to Apple, less than 1% of Video iPods shipped after September 12th left their contract manufacturer with the virus. Users of the iPod Nano, Shuffle and Mac OS X should be in the clear.
This makes the Bag Man nervous, and we all know the Bag Man’s not one to get nervous. Most production professionals have purposely held out on buying a new Mac Pro for this exact reason. Up until now, the words Mac and Virus were never heard in the same sentence. Audio and video post production studios around the world loved Macs for their stability. But ever since Intel merged with Apple, ousting IBM, the concern has been forever looming. Will hackers and virus geeks begin to target Apple computers next? The Bag Man hopes not, but the result is inevitable. Much like Neo in the Matrix, computer geeks around the world take pride in attacking Microsoft/Intel (Wintel) computers. They want to be known for bringing down systems of power and control. I just hope Apple is prepared for the onslaught as they continue to take market share away from Wintel based computers. As the Bag Man’s Uncle Ben parker always said, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Okay, okay… that’s Spiderman’s uncle, but you get the point.
