PuncherSketchABC’s “Six Degrees” out delivered “Shark” (new drama series from CBS) this Thursday by 18% among Adults 18-34. And no wonder why. The subplot outperformed the main story arch. Without giving away any plot spoilers, the show poked fun at New York City’s wide array of bizarre criminal characters. The writers went out of their way to create a character known as “The Puncher.” If the name doesn’t make you die of laughter, then you’ll really get a laugh at seeing New York’s infamous street vendors selling “The Puncher” and “Free the Puncher” t-shirts. One can’t help but be reminded of the notorious hip-hop group “The Lox,” who, in the late 90s and then some, went on a year long tirade against their record label “Bad Boy.” Needless to say in a show called “Six Degrees,” it doesn’t take long before “The Puncher” makes a connection to one of the main characters’ jawbone.

PuncherAndVictimDespite maintaining the 9.1 million viewers from week three, the show continues to lag behind ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” (ABC’s Thursday night 9pm breadwinner). Critics are badgering this show, calling it a series of transparent forced connections. OK, duh. Obviously, there are going to be connections, else what would be the point of having the character. On a positive note, the four airings of “Six Degrees,” on average, did top ABC’s ratings in the same time slot over last season (earning a 73% improvement in Total Viewers).
