Def Poetry JamThis week while touring NYC, the Bag Man had the pleasure of sitting in on the taping of the next season of Def Poetry Jam. That’s right, Russell is back with the brand he made famous and the words Mr. Simmons is notorious for: “Thanks for coming out God Bless.”

Poets will step to the stage and engage the audience in metaphor from the heart. But if you think just because you’ve seen last season’s Def Poetry Jam you’ve seen it all… you’re wrong. Russell has assembled an eclectic group of poets from all walks of race, religion, sex and life.

From conscientious spoken word to comedic verse, viewers will be excited to see Mos Def return to the stage along side such poets as Carlos Andrés Gómez, Vanessa Hidary, Shihan the poet, Sunni Patterson and many many more. As a special dedication to the people of New Orleans, poets from Lousiana step to the mic to share their experiences during Hurricane Katrina. Rapper/Actor David Banner steps to the stage to try his hand at poetry and express his personal take on last years tragic events in New Orleans.

    Hi Lisa,
I know it can be frustrating obtaining tickets to events like this. One way for the general public to obtain tickets (which are usually free) is by signing up for the events mailing list. Now you don’t want to sign up for any mailing list because SPAM is even more frustrating. Your best bet is to locate the production company facilitating the events taping. In this case Broadway Video handled the taping. So you can drop them an email to get added to their mailing list for future events. HBO also has promotions where they give away tickets to registered members of their listserv.

    Best of Luck,
    Iris

How does one find out about tapings and getting tickets? I can never seem to find anything out online.

Believe me when I tell you this is a must see season. I was also in attendance at multiple tapings. When Vanessa Hidary performed, on the final night, she really represented for the women and received a standing ovation.
