November 1st kicks off the official National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Thousands of writers will dedicate the next 30 days working diligently to complete a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30th. In 2005, over 59,000 authors participated and close to 10,000 of them were successful in making the midnight deadline. During this time, you can post exerpts from your work-in-progress to the NaNoWriMo website, so other writers can view your work. Of course don’t expect these novels to be the most brilliant you’ve ever read. Most will be mediocre to poor pieces of worthless dribble. But, that’s not the point of this program. The goal of this venture is to encourage aspiring novelists to start writing at an intensive pace alongside a supportive community. Sign-ups begin today, October 1st, and the writing begins November 1st. Happy scribbling!
